Midlothian Downtown Streetscape Enhancements

Streetscape

Project Overview

A Vision for the Future of Downtown Midlothian

Have you ever walked through Downtown Midlothian and imagined its streets, open spaces, and storefronts in a new way? Thought about how the sidewalks, crosswalks, and gathering spaces could feel more welcoming, connected, and vibrant? Or pictured how the storefronts and public spaces could better reflect the community’s character and bring people together? Even if you haven’t thought about it before, now’s the perfect time to start imagining!

The Village of Midlothian has launched an exciting planning and design initiative to create a clear vision for the future of its downtown. This effort will focus on improving streetscapes, open spaces, pedestrian areas, building facades, parking lots, and other important features to support a vibrant, connected, and resilient community. To bring this vision to life, the Village has partnered with The Lakota Group—a Chicago-based urban design, landscape architecture, planning, community engagement, and historic preservation firm—to guide the process.

The planning process will include collecting and reviewing data, mapping existing conditions, meeting with Village leaders, residents, and stakeholders, and identifying opportunities for improvement. This will be followed by the development of a bold and achievable vision that celebrates Midlothian’s unique identity and supports a thriving local economy.

Community engagement is at the heart of this project! There will be multiple opportunities for residents and stakeholders to share their ideas, whether through public meetings, workshops, surveys, or interactive activities. Together, we will explore how Downtown Midlothian can evolve into a destination where people want to spend time, shop, dine, and gather year-round.
