The Midlothian Police Department calls several ordinances to your attention:

1. Dogs and cats are to be licensed. Licenses for the current year go on sale May 1 and are issued upon presentation of a certificate of rabies inoculation. The fee is $6.00 per animal ($3.00 for senior citizen pet owners.)

2. It shall be unlawful for persons under 18 years of age to purchase, carry or use tobacco products in the Village of Midlothian. For first offense completion of smoking cessation program required.

3. No person shall stand or park any truck, tractor, semi-trailer, trailer or bus on any residential street except for loading or unloading.

4. A Midlothian vehicle license is required on any motor vehicle or motor bike. Vehicle stickers go on sale May 1 for the new year. Licenses expire Juno 30 and are sold at the Village Hall. Annual fees are:

  • ($20.00) Passenger cars, motor homes, RVs with RV plates, motorcycles, motor bicycles or motor scooters.
  • ($30.00) B-plated trucks 8,000 lb. or less (other rates available upon request).
  • ($2.00) Senior citizens who are 65 years and older before July 1 of the current year may purchase one sticker for $2.00 upon proof of age and proof of vehicle registration. This applies only to cars, motor homes, RVs.

5. No signs of any kind in residential areas, including signs on vehicles. Real Estate "For Sale" signs are permitted with restrictions.

6. No parking on any village street at any time if snow exceeds two inches in depth, until snow removal is completed.

7. Noise - a variety of ordinances intended to keep the neighborhoods peaceful.

8. Nuisance: a wide variety of ordinances prohibiting such things as keeping inoperable motor vehicles on private property and allowing weeds to grow over eight inches in length.

9. Curfew is 10:30 PM Sunday through Thursday nights and 11:30 PM Friday and Saturday nights for persons under the age of 17.

10. No burning of any kind is permitted, including burning of leaves.

11. A $2.00 permit is required for garage/yard sales. These may be held once a year for up to 3 consecutive days. Signs should be removed following the sale.

12. Building permits protect the residents of Midlothian: first, they protect the homeowner from unscrupulous workmen; second, they help keep property values up by insuring that work is done in accordance with codes. Building permits are required for all new building, remodeling, additions, fences, swimming pools, re-roofs, air conditioning installation. When in doubt, check with the Building Department. This will guarantee that any workmen you hire are licensed with the village. The Property Maintenance Code is enforced through the Building Department.

13. Outdoor storage of boats, campers, etc., is restricted. Call for further information.
