Animal Control
If you are the owner of a dog and/or cat in Midlothian, following are some
highlights from the village's animal control ordinance for both your
protection and your pet's protection:
-
All dogs and cats over 4 months old must be licensed by the Village.
-
Licenses take effect the date they are issued or June 30th, whichever
occurs first, and are $6 per animal per year.
-
All dogs and cats must be inoculated every 12 months OR have a 3-year
inoculation for rabies.
-
Licenses must be applied for within 10 days after acquiring any dog
or cat 4 months or age or older OR within 10 days after the dog or cat
reaches 4 months of age and has had rabies shot.
-
New residents have 10 days from the date of establishing residence in
Midlothian to obtain an animal license.
-
Each household is allowed a maximum combination of 3 dogs and/or
cats. A litter of puppies or kittens is excluded as long as they
have not reached 4 months of age.
-
Dogs and cats are not allowed to run at large. Animals off the
property of their owners must be leashed.
-
Please be mindful of your animal's needs. All animals must have
food, water and appropriate veterinary care. Animals cannot be
left unattended in a motor vehicle or enclosed trailer when the outside
temperature exceeds 30 degrees C (86 degrees F). Your pet should
never be exposed to extreme weather elements.
-
Please clean up after your pet! All deposits left by your dog
or cat on any property within the village must be picked up and disposed
of in a sanitary manner.
If you have any questions regarding your responsibilities as the owner of
a dog or cat, please contact the Midlothian Village Hall at
389-0200.
