The village's administrative and finance offices are the center of a self-supporting, multi-million dollar corporation known as the Village of Midlothian. The trustee assigned as chairman of administration and finance works closely with the village president and treasurer in budgeting, bookkeeping, and investing to provide operating funds needed for municipal services for Midlothian and its residents. In 1970, the village's portion of the real estate tax levy was abated. Today, after more than a quarter century of tax abatement, the village continues to operate soundly, able to upgrade and increase services on an ongoing basis.
Village operating dollars are supplemented by interest income generated from investments, by financing from a number of available outside sources, and, from time to time, by grants. Sound fiscal and cost effective management practices coupled with the wide array of services provided to property owners make for a winning combination and lower property taxes are an attractive benefit to both business and home owners.
