Midlothian has an entertainment asset few communities can match - its own banquet hall, with facilities for weddings, luncheons, cocktail parties, dances or business meetings. The Harry Raday Lodge (named for Midlothian's mayor who served from 1961-1985) at 145th and Kedzie can accommodate up to 200 for sit-down meals, and many more for events where tables aren't required. It is available for rental to any Midlothian property owner, who may also sponsor usage by a non-resident or non-local organization or business. Users choose their own music, caterer, menu and bar service to "customize" any celebration or special event.
Midlothian is proud of its small-town atmosphere, free of the traffic, tie-ups and congestion common to some of the Village's larger neighboring suburbs. This ambiance is reflected in shopping areas such as the Midlothian Plaza at 144th and Pulaski, where you'll find the Secretary of State driver's license facility, a restaurant, furniture store, grocery and general goods store. Along 147th Street are Corsi Plaza and Eagle Plaza, featuring a variety of retail stores as well as offices. Mid Oak Plaza, anchored by a 24-hour Walgreen's, is on Cicero Avenue at 147th Street.
You can shop for groceries at one of three major supermarkets in Midlothian, and do your banking at one of the three banks in town. Whether you want to rent a movie, buy a sweet treat, find an exquisite gift, surprise someone with fresh flowers, purchase office supplies, plan a vacation, get your car repaired - or buy a new one! - have your hair styled, purchase hardware or appliances, decorate with new furniture, learn martial arts... if you need to see the dentist or doctor, seek legal advice, get new eye glasses, find day care for your children, or obtain insurance coverage for home or business... you're in the right place when you're in Midlothian. All the goods and services you and your family need are right here.
Just a stone's throw from the Village in Orland Park is Square, one of the Chicago area's premier regional malls, as well as River Crest Center
in neighboring Crestwood, and the Chicago Ridge malls. Residents have easy access to the almost limitless shopping opportunities in Downtown
Chicago via the Metra railroad with fast, conveniently scheduled commuter train service 'round the clock.
Every day of the year offers "a taste of Midlothian" with a wide selection of restaurants, from national fast-food franchises to individually owned dining establishments such as Saravan's Family Restaurant,
Hog Wild, Kenootz, The Diner, Gum Wah and House of Hughes. Restaurateurs offer a great variety of tastes, atmospheres and cuisines - whether grabbing a quick bite, getting together for a business meeting or going "out on the town", there's something for everyone.
MIDLOTHIAN COUNTRY CLUB
The Village of Midlothian takes its name from the Midlothian Country Club, a private club founded in 1898 by prominent Chicago businessmen looking for a summer retreat for their families. They came "way out to the country" (147th Street) and found a piece of property with rolling hills that reminded them of the Midlothian described in Sir Walter Scott's book "Heart of Midlothian". That Midlothian is in Scotland where golf was first played and so it was chosen as a fitting name for the new club. The club was one of the first golf clubs in the country and remains a prestigious course. The mayor's annual charity golf classic is held every
summer at the Midlothian Country Club.
