Midlothian School District #143 serves approximately 1,766 students at four buildings. Central park (Grades K-8), Kolma (Grades K-8), Spaulding (Pre-K, Early Childhood and K), and Springfield (Grades K-6). The Mission of the district is to provide the finest educational environment for each student to successfully achieve the academic, social, and emotional skills necessary for his or her continued development. To that end the district features a strong academic curriculum; fine arts; supplemental features such as assertive discipline, reading recovery and gifted clustering; special education; extracurricular programs; and student recognition programs.

School District 143, which celebrated its 75th anniversary in 1995, maintains close contact with the community through key communications, parent organizations, a School Board liaison to the Village, and its VOICE Newsletter.

Midlothian youngsters are fortunate to also have the option of attending St. Christopher Catholic School, which has served the community for over 65 years. St. Christopher School strives to educate each child spiritually, socially and intellectually in a loving atmosphere. A full academic program including religious study is enhanced by music, art, library, computer science, and physical education. The education of the total child is emphasized. Additional services include an extended day care program for students of working parents (from 6:30-8:30 AM and from 2:30-6:00 PM) and pre-school classes.

High school students in Midlothian may attend two of the four schools operated by district 228; Bremen High School (opened in 1956) or Oak Forest High School (opened in 1971). The District serves over 5,000 students and also operated Hillcrest High School and Tinley Park High School.

District 228 continues to be the most efficient high school in all of Cook County. Its facilities are used by communities for a number of functions and an excellent relationship exists between the high school district and the communities served.

Most Midlothian teens attend Bremen High School, which enrolls approximately 1,100 students who are given many opportunities in academics and curricular activities. Bremen's parent and alumni involvement has brought continued pride to the school and over $500,000 to provide more for students. Sixteen booster organizations representing academic and athletic teams work together to promote the school and family spirit.

ACT test scores for Bremen students continue to rise, up to 20.0 in 1995. The Class of 1995 valedictorian was selected to the All State Illinois High School Association Team for his outstanding performance in academics, athletics and activities; and two Bremen students recently presented a foreign language program at the Capitol Building in Springfield.

Bremen math teacher and head wrestling coach Tim O'Brien designed an award-winning Home Page. The BHS Home Page was featured on America Online. The web site has also been selected as a winner of the Cornerstone Foundation Award for "Excellence in Education." No more than 20% of the total sites nominated quality for this honor. The Internet Board at MD Link has also selected the Bremen H.S. Home Page as exemplary of the talent and creativity demonstrated at college and university sites around the world. The "Best of Campus" award banner is currently displayed on the web site.

At Bremen High School all students are encouraged to make academics their priority while participating in extra-curricular activities. Students' needs are met through a wide range and variety of courses from advanced placement to special education. Students, parents and faculty are actively involved in the pursuit of life-long learning. All are recognized for their efforts and achievements, and the entire school community works together to make a difference for students.

Bremen High was one of only a handful of schools in Illinois to receive a Technology Internet Grant from the State Board of Education. The grant will enable students to "learn alongside" their peers worldwide as they work with students in Germany and in cooperation with Argonne National Laboratory.
